If you are a professional or owner of a small business who has been finally convinced to give live streaming a chance, you will most likely have a ton of questions that you need answers to. This week’s BeLive Weekly discusses “What it’s really like to be a brand new live streamer?”
Guest host Jenny Q and special guest Jillian Todd talked about the many questions and thoughts that brand new live streamers go through and here’s 4 of them.
When you are new to live streaming, you need to be ready to step out of your comfort zone. You need to get over your paralysis over analysis; this means that you can’t allow yourself to not do anything because you keep analyzing what can go wrong and instead, just face your fears.
When you open yourselves when you live stream, it can get tricky because anybody can comment. You might also be worried about offending someone or have someone ask a question that you don’t know the answer to. You may have doubts and could also be self conscious but if you keep practicing, you will become more comfortable. Practice makes perfect and this old adage couldn’t be more true when it comes to live streaming.
Sometimes, things just happen and when you’re live, the chances of things going wrong is pretty big. After all, it is live and you cannot edit anything nor curate things. So, what can you do?
Be ready for anything and learn to think on your feet. As this video shows, technical glitches can happen but as long as you maintain your composure, things will get back on track and your audience will understand it. This is one of the beauty of live shows. People don’t expect it to be perfect.
If you want to be on the safe side, have a list of things that you think can potentially go wrong and practice how you would handle it but also make sure you practice for something that can go wrong that you may have no control over. How you handle these kind of glitches will show your audience the kind of person that they could be dealing with should they get your services.
Guess what? Everyone has something that they don’t like about themselves especially when they watch themselves on camera. It could be the way their hair falls on their face, the way they move, they way they keep saying uhmmm, or even the sound of their voice.
You can nitpick on yourself all you want but instead of doing that, why don’t you choose a particular thing that you do that you actually like. It could be the fact that you smile a lot or you engage with your viewers no matter how small or big they may be. It could also be the fact that your live stream could save someone because you have something to offer that they need.
Instead of focusing on the negative, focus on the positive no matter how small it may be. Look for something that you actually liked about your video and focus on that. Sometimes, even the simple fact that you went live is already something you can consider as a win.
Let’s all admit it. Most of us won’t do anything if we have nothing to gain from it. Even doing charity work gives us something, a sense of fulfillment about being able to do good.
So you’re probably asking, why should I do this?
First, you can build the know, like, and trust factor of the people you want to reach out to even before they call you. This is especially beneficial for professionals as your potential customers can see what you are like and have an idea of who you are. It’s the same concept as when we watch a series and end up feeling like we know the actors behind the characters because we’ve seen them on TV many times.
Second, live stream does not ask you to be perfect. You can be yourself and make mistakes. It’s better to be natural rather than rehearsed and perfect because people can see right through it and nobody wants something fake.
Third, you can use your daily life and work as a pool for your daily content. You can answer questions your customers may have and share it online. You can tap into a whole lot of possibilities and since you already have an industry, you also have a target audience who can listen and share what you have to say.
